1. What cookies are

Cookies are small text files a website asks your browser to store on your device. They are used to make sites work, to remember preferences, and to tell site owners how their pages are used. A first-party cookie is set by the site you are visiting; a third-party cookie is set by another company, such as an advertising or analytics provider. A session cookie is deleted when you close your browser; a persistent one stays until it expires or you delete it. Similar technologies — pixels, web beacons and local storage — do comparable jobs, and we refer to all of them as “cookies” here.

2. How Vobo uses cookies

We use cookies to keep the site working, to understand how readers find and use it, and to show advertising that pays for it. They fall into three categories.

a. Essential cookies

Necessary for the site to function and for recording your cookie choices. These cannot be switched off in our systems, because without them we could not remember that you declined the others.

b. Analytics cookies

These help us understand which pages readers find useful and where they give up, so we can improve them. They are set only once Google’s consent message indicates that storage is permitted.

c. Advertising cookies

Set by our advertising partner to select ads, limit how often you see the same one, and measure whether advertising works. Google Consent Mode v2 holds advertising storage in the denied state until Google’s consent message records your choice.

3. Third-party cookies

The services below are enabled on this site and set their own cookies under their own privacy policies.

• Google AdSense (advertising). Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. These may be set from domains including doubleclick.net, googlesyndication.com and googleadservices.com. See How Google uses information from sites that use its services.
• Google Analytics 4 (analytics). Aggregated statistics about how the site is used — pages viewed, session length, traffic source. In GA4, IP addresses are not logged or stored by default.

Browser settings

Every major browser lets you view, delete and block cookies, including blocking third-party cookies entirely. See the help pages for Chrome, Firefox, Safari or Edge. Blocking cookies can affect how some sites work; it will not affect this one.

Advertising and analytics opt-outs

• Many other vendors: the Digital Advertising Alliance at optout.aboutads.info, or in Europe youronlinechoices.eu.
• Google Analytics, across every site: the opt-out browser add-on.

Google’s consent message

Advertising and analytics consent here is collected by Google’s certified consent management platform rather than by a banner we wrote. It appears before non-essential cookies are set where the law requires it, and you can reopen it at any time from section 6 to change or withdraw your choice.

Global Privacy Control

We honour Global Privacy Control browser signals as a request to opt out of the sharing of personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising, where that applies.

There is no agreed standard for how sites should respond to Do Not Track signals, so like most publishers we do not act on them. We do honour Global Privacy Control, as described above.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy to reflect changes in the cookies we use or for legal or operational reasons. Material changes will be posted here with a revised “last updated” date, and where a change requires your consent we will ask before it takes effect.
